Every Semester, the Full Time Internship Program at Teen Talk is responsible for the team-production of Teen Talk Radio - our hour long teen-oriented radio series. As in all of our documentaries, video or radio, the topics of Teen Talk Radio are "real and hard-hitting". Here we are in the studios of WSHS, wrapping up a typical one-week project at Teen Talk Radio. Our topics this year include...

"Self Esteem In The City That Never Sleeps... " - March '08

Members of NYC Healthcorps crew join The BIGGEST LOSER Jim Germanakos and Sade Gray with the Teen Talk crew at West Side High for a taping of SELF ESTEEM IN THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS, looking at the issue of body image and self esteem.
Dr.Oz's infamous High School Health Corps team spoke about healthy lifestyles AAt home, BIGGEST LOSER Jim Germanakos lost over 50% 0f his body weight...A total of 186 pounds!!!A
Students define their own issues, do all of the research, write all questions, and host each segment of the show.A

IIn addition to the interview process, students also learn all aspects of the technical end of production. We use cameras to cover the guests on our panel as well as hand held cameras to get shotsw of our interview hosts...students will then edit the final product at the end of the semester.
West Side High School graduate Sade Gray is also a spoken word artist. Her composition "I'M FAT, AND..." examins the grief she has endured for not fitting into the "skinny" stereotype of women portrayed by the media.
Students listen to tech direction getting ready to launch into their interviews.
In addition to video, produced for Manhattan Neighborhood Network, we also produce audio on DAT (Digital Audio Taperecorders) for WHCR---Harlem Community Radio. Here's an audio engineer working during our shoot.

DO KIDS REALLY VALUE THEIR EDUCATION?

THIS SHOW WAS JUST TO SEE WHETHER KIDS ARE INTO THEIR EDUCATION OR NOT. I
MADE THIS SHOW UP BECAUSE I FEEL THAT TODAY'S YOUTH ARE INTO OTHER THINGS THAT ARE NOT IMPORTANT, THAN WHAT'S IMPORTANT, AND THATS YOR EDUCATION.

Guests included a panel of youth/ teachers, and parents

'WHAT'Z HOOD' - 11/9/06

This is a show that I strongly want to do because it's a problem in the community. The show is about how the hood impacts the youth.
Think of it this way... look at all the things that go on the the urban hoods....not too many good things if you do your research.
If you talk to any old heads from the hood, their reaction to anything relating tothe hood, they would say that the youth today will end up 2 places.... dead or in jail.
Guests are youth from Each One/ Teach One- formerly incarcerated youth and the Christian Culture Youth Ministry.

TOO MANY CHANGES- SO LITTLE TIME- a look at teen moms from the past to the present.

This show is basically about teens mom and how it has changed from the past to the present. We are going to have former and present teenage moms as guests on this show. Because teen moms are always getting stared at, which I disagree with. It should be talked about so they can express there feelings and defend themselves! In addition to current teen moms, we also have women who were teen moms in the '50's, who were forced to give their children up for adoption.

LIFE ADDICTIONS- 12/7/06

This show will touch basics on youth and adult addictions. Also, in this show, there will be many point of views. We, personally, will be telling our stories on how drugs have affected our lives. Also, we will get stories from WPA and Vertex Drug Rehab Center who were addicted and have completely turned their lives around. We wanted to talk about this to the people who are either goingthrough it or have gone through it and can relate. Therefore, this show is for all those who feel that no one knows how they feel. WE DO!!!
